Prayer for America 11/19/05

Thank you, God, for libraries. Thank you for quiet places tucked into the corners of our neighborhoods and schools and homes filled with the ideas and imagination of the ages. It is good to be blessed with the wisdom of the past and visions of tomorrow. We thank you for classics and for criticism, for poetry and for praise, for novels and for nonsense--for the rich cacophony of words that fills our hearts and minds with awesome, endless possibilities.

Give us now and always eager minds and hopeful hearts. And give us books. Amen.
