Prayer for America 12/09/05

Creator god, the eagle is making a comeback! I believe that you delight in the stewardship of the watchful caretakers who have guarded the existence of this majestic bird. They have seen to it that our national symbol did not disappear from the face of the earth. Thank you, Father. Thank you for the people who have an interest in preserving forests, prairies, and oceans; bears, alligators, and pelicans; the Everglades, the Rockies, and the Great Lakes. Thank you that you have knit the American people together with our different interests, abilities, and passions to do our part to make this country strong, while preserving its special beauty. Help us as people who have vastly varied perspectives to understand and respect one another. Help us not to villainize those who differ from us but to acknowledge the validity of their concerns. Let the American eagle remind us that we can survive and thrive if we make the effort to do so.
