Prayer for America 12/18/05

Thank you, God, for work.

Thank you for the contribution I can make and for the rewards I receive for doing it. My reward is not just the check or even the satisfaction of doing my best. Sometimes my reward is a smile from a customer, a pat on the back from a supervisor, a curious question from a coworker. Everywhere, every day, across our nation people do their work will diligence and grace--we are a productive people made great through an accumulation of small contributions. I'm glad to offer one of them.

So today, God, give me work to do and joy in doing it. May one of the smiles I receive be yours. Amen.
