Officer Meehand and Officer Stella Donahue were killed when Officer Donahue lost control of their patrol vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard near Cottman Avenue and struck a tree. The two had been investigating the behavior of teenagers in the Pennypack Circle section and were on their way to a restaurant when the accident happened.
Officer Meehan, a seven-year veteran of the force, was a Navy veteran of World War II.
