Prayer for America 02/19/06

We had feared so many of our fellow citizens had abandoned you, Lord, to go off on their own like wayward children forsaking their roots. But it takes just one taste of catastrophe, and they are back in your house, runaways returned to their safe nests.

You knew they would come back, Lord-that they couldn't make it on their own. Your children gather in churches and synagogues and mosques, seeking haven--seeking comfort. They stand together. They give each other courage, and they pray for peace.

Your house of worship is a place of refuge. It is a place of acceptance and comfort. How good it is to hear neighbors say again, "Let us go to the house of the Lord!" (Psalm 122:1), and you welcome them back. Thank you, Lord.
