Prayer for America 07/01/06

The American flag boasts fifty stars. Fifty points of light standing side by side. Lord God, you have shown us how we, as states, become more than the sum of our parts as we stand together. Individually, we are tiny parcels of territory with limited resources and tremendous vulnerabilities. Together, we are a force to be reckoned with, the greatest nation on the face of the earth. And I am so proud, Father, that we have chosen to stand together for ideals that honor you: liberty, freedom, peace, justice. Let the light of these fifty stars keep shining strong, bright, and united in you. Amen.

God ignites the star upon our nation’s flag, keeping them shining through sunny celebrations; farewells to heroes; and our long, dark nights.
