Thanksgiving In Irag

To the men and women who will be in Iraq
This Thanksgiving Day.
The people of America, remember you in every way
I know you have little ones, back here at home
I see you in the desert, sleeping in sand, all alone

It must be difficult to learn a language not your own
To keep the peace in Iraq, is hard, when those you love
Are in a land so far away
I feel your sadness on this Thanksgiving Day.

You are young men and woman
Teaching freedom is the way America was made
How do you show people, who are so afraid.
When you walk with boots, that fill with sand
But the Lord is still there with you in a Muslim land

I will set a place at the table, this Thanksgiving Day
Hoping you will come back soon
Maybe on Christmas Day.

As we express our gratitude,
we must never forget that the
highest appreciation is not to
utter words, but to live by them.
