Prayer for America 12/29/05

Lord, the old year is drawing to a close, and a new one is about to begin. Once again we stand at a threshold.

A threshold, Lord, is a place of change, where we have the chance to leave behind the things we no longer need and ready ourselves for the news. Every threshold is an invitation to cast off ballast and move ahead unburdened.

Help us, Lord, to gracefully release the burdens of the past and ask forgiveness where it is needed. Help us to carefully choose what to carry into the new year. Help us make plans that bring out the best in us and serve your purpose for our lives.

Walk with us across the threshold between the years, and show us how to greet the future eagerly and openly, knowing your will guide us in love through whatever lies ahead.
