Prayer for America 06/04/06

Lord, among the most heartening scenes on television are the images of volunteers, arriving at the site of a tragedy after driving all night, ready to clear wreckage or retrieve bodies.

Our emotions are touched by all the good Samaritans who jump to the aid of their neighbors at disaster scenes ravaged by flood, tornado, hurricane, or fire. How rich we are in America!

Our citizens also volunteer in schools, hospitals, national parks, and museums. Some help with child care, some serve food at shelters, and some build houses.

You have planted your love in their hearts, God. They are your hands in the world. We thank you for a place where so many consider it important to care for their neighbors. We are grateful for our volunteers, our country's most precious resource.
